Sultan’s Favorite March Op. 30
Parish Alvars composed two marches in honour of Sultan Mahūd II: the present one (“the Favourite”) and the “Parade March”, the fifth piece of the “Travel of a Harpist in the Orient op. 62”. The “Favourite” is certainly the more interesting of the two and it also became one of Parish Alvars’ best-known and most-frequently transcribed compositions.
